Social Investment Monitor- – Field Based (4 positions)
Reporting to the Social Investment Supervisor

Job Purpose:

  • Be responsible for regular monitoring of all site based social investment and Local community development initiatives.
  • Play a key role in enabling operational activities by enhancing community development outcomes through social investment programmes and initiatives.
  • Work closely with local Implementing partners in providing guidance on community development strategies and Implementation.
  • Play an important role in supporting the stakeholder engagement activities within the areas of operation.
  • Provide support to national Level programmes and other Group initiatives that are extended to neighbouring communities.


  • Social Investment (SI) & Community Development
  • Work closely with the Field Stakeholder Engagement Officers (FSEOs) and support the SI Supervisor to ensure that grassroots social interventions and investment programmes are aligned to key operational risks, impacts, community development requirements and Tullow’s SI Standards (Mandatory Criteria)
  • Work closely with SI Supervisor to facilitate stakeholder engagement, identifying community needs/issues in order to advise on social investment so that SI projects/initiatives can both help to manage social impacts of our operations and meet community aspirations.
  • Ensure stakeholder engagement process results in appropriate participation and sustainability of projects by securing stakeholder “buy in” from project concept design through to implementation and exit.
  • Work closely with implementing partners to design, develop and drive community SI activities in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Support the collation of baseline data and work of specialist consultants as requested to ensure desired outcomes are met.
  • Monitor assigned SI projects and programmes in relation to the SI strategy, SI mandatory criteria and community perceptions on a regular basis and submit reports to SI Supervisor.
  • Monitor the work of assigned implementing partners to ensure that they deliver in accordance with agreed work plans and signed contracts and any community issues/concerns are reported and addressed appropriately.
  • Ensure that periodic, reliable measures and indicators of SI project impact are collected and reported to the SI Supervisor
  • Assess progress in achieving results for assigned activities, and highlight when projects are underperforming; make recommendations regarding corrective action; and provide written activity status reports to the SI Supervisor.
  • Support the SI Supervisor to review the community development context, results indicators, and activity implementation progress with the aim of identifying emerging problem areas and new priorities.
  • Provide relevant project data/information to the SI Supervisor to ensure effective communication around the respective SI initiatives.
  • Work with the SI Supervisor to ensure that Social Investment initiatives are highlighted in an appropriate manner during community engagements to promote understanding of the SI projects and community ownership.
  • Help to record and maintain relevant project documentation to guarantee proper audit trail, closure and sustainability of SI projects.
  • Cooperate and support community engagement activities as requested.
  • Support the execution of national level and Group SI initiatives (ie TGSS) that are extended to impacted communities as requested.


  • Degree or minimum Diploma in humanities / social science / arts.
  • More than two years previous experience working within a community development / social performance role (potentially within a NGO / CSO environment) in a marginalized community environment is desirable.
  • Experience in developing and executing social investment and community development projects at a grassroots level is essential.
  • Previous exposure to technical aspects of community needs assessment, stakeholder engagement / participatory community engagement processes would be desirable.
  • Experience working in Turkana and knowledge of local languages a strong advantage
  • Familiar with relevant international guidelines on investment (IPIECA, IFC, ICMM etc).
  • Proficient in basic project management.
  • Ability to implement strategies (including key stakeholder engagement) to secure desired outcomes and support objectives.
  • Build and maintain a network of local stakeholders and informed parties (in the area of social investment).
  • Ability to work with external consultants / advisors to support key deliverables and build capacity.
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
