Assistant Knowledge Manager Kenya Job

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), established in 1988, is a public not-for-profit organization devoted to the advancement of economic policy research and training in sub-Saharan Africa.

AERC’s mission is to strengthen local capacity for independent, rigorous inquiry into problems pertinent to the management of African economies, through a synergetic programme combining economic research with postgraduate training in economics.

AERC in collaboration with the African Studies Center (ASC) in Leiden, The Netherlands; International Institute of Social Studies/Erasmus University Rotterdam (ISS/EUR) and The Broker hosts the Secretariat of Knowledge Platform on Development Policies on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Netherlands.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to enhance the use of knowledge and
research in development cooperation.

In the framework of this project, the AERC seeks to recruit an Assistant Knowledge Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to provide support to AERC in knowledge brokering and the engagement of alumni and African policy makers, and organizing workshops and Platform meetings in Africa.

The candidate will be expected to perform the following duties

  • Identify and draft an overview of existing knowledge for policy on the key themes selected by the Platform;
  • Summarize and synthesize existing knowledge and making it accessible to policy makers, practitioners and other stakeholders to facilitate knowledge exchange;
  • Organize and facilitate debate and discussion on selected themes;
  • Provide support in managing the activities of the platform;
  • Assist in preparation of funding proposals and concept notes;
  • Provision of input into the preparation of reports and other materials for AERC;
  • Carry out any other work/duties as may be requested.

Applicants must have:

  • At least a Ph.D. in Economics/Development Economics or related field;
  • Good analytical and quantitative skills;
  • Experience in facilitating knowledge exchange;
  • Evidence of publications in peer reviewed journals/book chapters, etc;
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience in work assignments that involve collaboration /networking with different players.
