About Us:
Tradecare Africa is a social enterprise working on improvement of living and trading conditions for workers and small holder farmers locked in poverty at the bottom of Agricultural and natural resource extractive value chains.

The institution seeks to achieve this through agricultural value chain partnerships with like minded organizations, training and capacity building on ethical trade production, research and impact studies among others. Tradecare Africa was founded as React Africa in
November 2008. Tradecare Africa is the implementing partner in a value chain project in Cashew nut, which aims to achieve better organization of cashew farmers for improved market access.

These will be achieved through increasing efficiency, quantity and quality of primary production of cashew in a socially and environmentally sustainable manner. The project is being implemented in the counties of Lamu, Kilifi and Kwale. Tradecare seeks to employ 3 Field officers based in Lamu and Kilifi counties for day to day management of interventions for sustainable business relations of all the chain actors (including smallholder cashew farmers), improved productivity and quality of nuts and sustainable income earnings for farmers.

Keys Performance Objectives:

  • Undertake registration of farmer’s data and trade information data using the tool provided important for creation of farmer’s aggregations. This should capture, among other, details on land ownership, gender, age, no. of trees, production during previous season, number of workers, common agronomic practices, access to financial services in the allocated county. Trade information will entail documenting what is bought, for whom, against what quality etc.The data will be inputted into a farmer’s database for aggregation.
  • Mobilize farmers and other stakeholders to participate in the project launch through a Cashew Festival;
  • Hold strategic workshops / forums with the farmer aggregations to share the results of the analysis and diagnostics carried out including how efficiencies can be generated on the institutional level, yield, captivity, logistics and quality (humidity and outturn), additional potential farmer aggregations and plan trainings to strength them and connect to a processor in a sustainable way and based on the tasks the farmer aggregation wants to/ can assume..
  • Undertake farmers training s at the farmer’s group levels on various topical issues as identified through the diagnostic. These may include good agricultural practices, quality management, strengthening organizational and institutional capacity, financial management, understanding supply chain partnership model agreed upon by private sector sectors, cost benefit analysis, market linkages and contracting and child labour issues
  • Undertake farmers coaching during season to assess results ( to check if farmers implement the knowledge gained through trainings ), if farmers have all the operational tools in place for instance, with regard to traceability and share any irregularities to ensure they are addressed appropriately;
  • Play the linkage role for farmers with business service providers (for supply of inputs, spraying of inputs) and with the processors to ensure they see the value / comparative advantage of sustainably engaging the processors than trading cashew through brokers;
  • Undertake any other assignments as may be allocated from time to time.

Qualification and Values for position holder

  • A diploma holder preferably in agribusiness management, agriculture education and extension, community development or other related courses;
  • Ability to deliver trainings to farmers groups essential
  • Past experience in organizing community groups is desirable
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Good relationships with stakeholders
  • Commitment to work within defined deadlines
  • Willingness to ride a motorbike is key
  • Excellent, formal and courteous communication skills
  • Non Political, religious or tribal affiliation while undertaking duties

The field coordinators will be trained first and then replicate the same to farmers groups in allocated counties
