Hotel Operations Manager Job Vacancy

Our client is a hotel in the outskirts of Nairobi seeking to hire a Hotel Operations Manager. The role is responsible for the day-to-day management of a hotel and its staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Handle budgeting, planning, organizing and directing all hotel services
  • Planning and organizing accommodation, catering and other hotel services;
  • Maximising room sales opportunities
  • Promoting and marketing the business
  • Managing budgets and financial plans as well as controlling expenditure;
  • Setting and achieving sales and profit targets
  • Propose and implement effective marketing strategies to maximize room occupancy
  • Analyzing sales figures and devising marketing strategies
  • Recruiting, training and monitoring staff
  • Planning work schedules for individuals and teams
  • Meeting and greeting customers
  • Dealing with customer complaints and comments
  • Addressing problems and troubleshooting
  • Ensuring events and conferences run smoothly
  • Supervising maintenance, supplies, renovations and furnishings
  • Dealing with contractors and suppliers
  • Ensuring security is effective, carrying out inspections of property and services;
  • Ensuring compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Delivering excellent customer service, at all times, ensuring guests’ comfort and safety
  • Deal with all enquires in a professional and courteous manner
  • Assist in keeping the hotel clean and tidy, at all times
  • Keep up to date with current promotions and hotel pricing, to provide information to guests
  • Handle all reservations, cancellations and no-shows, in line with company policy
  • Report any faults or damage in any of the hotel facilities immediately
  • Monitor and oversee maintenance issues and liaise with third-party contractors as required
  • Be accountable for all relevant product delivery and stock management (mainly, laundry, cleaning materials and room supplies)
  • Setting stock levels, checking, counting, storage, reconciliation and loss investigation
  • Ensure effective and efficient use of all hotel equipment in line with company policy
  • Provide reports, as required to the board
  • Manage and maintain correct staffing levels in line with targets and business levels
  • Ensure that all members of the team sign in/out on the time sheets at reception and manage absence and lateness, in line with company policy
  • Be responsible for evacuation, in cases of emergency, acting as first point of contact
  • Report any security issues immediately

Qualification & Skills

  • Degree in Business/ Hospitality/ Hotel Management/ Tourism Studies
  • 4 to 6 years experience in a similar role
  • Experience handling a Hotel with a restaurant and rooms
  • Knowledge of Hotel Computer Systems
  • Excellent decision making skills
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Young, dynamic go getter personality
  • Individuals ready to “roll up their sleeves” & “get their hands dirty”.
  • Well presented
