Underwriting Manager Job Vacancy

An insurance brokerage firm is looking to recruit an Underwriting Manager.

Reporting To: General Manager

Overall Job Purpose: 
Responsible for determining if claimant or applicant is eligible for insurance coverage.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and create underwriting agreements
  • Analyze insurance applications.
  • Work with appraisers to determine value of items.
  • Determine proper premiums and policy terms and conditions.
  • Coordinate with internal functions to ensure all deliverables are met consistently within the promised time line

Key Performance Indicators

  • Average cost per claim
  • Customer satisfaction
  • Claims ratio
  • Average time to settle a claim
  • Effectiveness at meeting sales targets


  • Holding professional qualification from Insurance Institute of repute like Chartered Insurance Institute, UK etc will be an added advantage.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Business related field.
  • Fully AIIK/ACII or equivalent qualified.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the Insurance Industry.


  • Demonstrate a track record for underwriting profitability, breadth and depth of technical knowledge in all underwriting matters and an understanding of the insurance market and processes.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership as well as good mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Pragmatic decision maker with strong analytical and numerical reasoning.
  • Strong team player, communicator with superior negotiation skills.

  • Very strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good business sense
  • Plenty of initiative
