About the Organization: 
Nuru Kenya is a non­-governmental organization currently working in Migori County, Kenya. Nuru Kenya’s mission is to end extreme poverty in remote, rural areas of Kenya.


To this end, Nuru implements a holistic development model working with programs in Agriculture, Financial Inclusion, Healthcare, and Education.

Nuru Kenya has established its initial cooperatives in Migori and Kuria East sub­counties and is hiring Field Coordinators to support the Cooperative leadership in implementing Nuru Kenya interventions.

The cooperatives which have been established are: Maeta Grain and Marketing Cooperative (Kuria East), Rebwi Grain and Marketing Cooperative (Kuria East), Kegonga Grain and Marketing Cooperative (Kuria East), Watami Grain and Marketing Cooperative (Kuria East) and Royol Grain and Marketing Cooperative (Awendo).

In the long run, Nuru Kenya intends to transition all the farmers into cooperatives in order to allow them engage in income generating activities to sustain their farming activities.

Job Overview:

  • The FCs will work under Nuru Kenya management and will report to the Program Managers for FI and Agriculture programs.
  • They will assist the Cooperative leadership in trainings and ensuring adoption of best agronomic and financial management practices as advocated for by Nuru Kenya.
  • Specific Responsibilities:
  • Directly reports to the Field Director and proactively seeks solutions to problems that arise in designated area and works diligently with Field Director and the cooperative management to resolve problems.
  • Provide timely agronomic and financial management trainings to cooperative leaders and group leaders.
  • Work in coordination with the Cooperative Manager to achieve the cooperative’s goals
  • Manage, develop and train your Cooperatives leaders.
  • Maintain 90% in the field to build confidence and trust in cooperative farmer members.
  • Support the cooperative leaders to the logistics of input issue for your area with the cooperative leaders.
  • Conduct Base Education and supervise all other trainings for your area
  • Completes accurate and timely reporting of financial Inclusions and agricultural trainings and programmatic roles as well as the performance of the co­operative.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Male or female aged 18 years and above
  • Be a holder of a KCSE certificate with at least 5 years relevant experience or
  • A holder of a Certificate in Agriculture, Microfinance, Credit Management or any other related course from a recognized institution with at least 3 years’ relevant experience or
  • A holder of a Diploma in Agriculture, Microfinance, Credit Management or any other related course from a recognized institution with at least 3 years’ relevant experience
  • Ability to train on financial services and improved farming techniques
  • Experience working with community programs as a trainer
  • A good community mobilizer with un­ questionable public character.
  • Ability to facilitate maintenance of records of savings, withdrawals and loan activities of the cooperative as guided from time to time.
  • Speak fluent Kiswahili and Kikuria/Dholuo (preferred) but English will be an added advantage.
  • Applicants must be residents of advertised job locations i.e. Kuria East and Awendo Sub­counties respectively
  • Experience working effectively in a team setting.

Working Conditions:

  • Work will be performed mainly in the field, and sometimes in the office at the Regional Training Center or respective Cooperatives offices.
  • Sometimes you will be required to work extra hours during the week, weekends or holidays during busier seasons.
  • Remuneration: Commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience.
