Collections & Credit Risk Analyst Job in Kenya

Our Client is currently recruiting a Collections, Recoveries and Credit Risk Analyst, the incumbent will be responsible for the overall operational and loss performance of the product segments within the business.

You will develop and focus on operational excellence, strategic enhancements to improve loss performance and continual improvements to the customer experience.

The support areas will range from developing specialized areas of collections to common operational support functions like quality control processes in line with the job role.

The role will also involve driving the acquisition of the relevant data from potential and existing clients storing that data, performing ETL functions and thereafter analytics.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Business Intelligence Lead, the Finance Manager and the support of the rest of the team, your specific responsibilities will include:

Job Responsibilities

Credit Risk Management:

  • Create and implement the credit risk scoring functionality and provide the management the same within the respective business units
  • Create and implement operational business plans aligned with the overall business strategy to ensure the business unit has the capacity and capability to manage risk, collections and recoveries
  • To participates in the development and implementation of long-term strategies, policies and technological advancements in line with risk, collections and recoveries
  • Drive risk accountability in planning: identify regulatory, financial, operational, reputation and other risk issues
  • Design, build and maintain the right credit risk parameters that will ensure that Pawame is applying the relevant models that are congruent with the chosen customer profile.
  • Process/Continuous Improvement: Identifying and initiating improvement projects that will aid in managing day-to-day operation of the risk department
  • Participate in the hiring process of analysts and data scientists, making sure that the resource plans meet business needs
  • Creation, implementation and monitoring of all the Credit Risk scoring models.

Customer data collection and analytics:

  • Create an agile process around the Extraction, Transformation and Loading of the customer data in the possession of the business
  • Identifying different data points within the business and its key stakeholders that will be useful in creating a robust credit risk management platform.
  • Developing and executing a strategy on on boarding targeted clientele with the use of a data acquisition template.
  • Assisting in the acquisition and optimization of complex data sets received from third party data providers.
  • Networking with and developing a deep relationship with prospective and existing stakeholders.
  • Conducting regular meetings / conversations with stakeholders on evolving regulatory / credit risk issues.
  • Must be able to understand, interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements to real business practices based on every country of operation.
  • Identifying, growing and training of the credit risk team as well as the customer facing teams
  • Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques.

Data mining.

  • Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems.
  • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis.
  • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear visualized manner.
  • Support scoping, design and implementation of pilot projects and studies aimed to improve operational efficiency through innovative use of big data and analytics.


  • A solid understanding of Credit Risk: Origination, Calibration, Validation and Monitoring.
  • Good knowledge of issues facing the current regulatory / risk agenda within the market.
  • Ideally 8-12 years’ work experience in financial services sector of which at least 5 years is in credit risk / related areas.
  • Self-starter who will not wait for instructions and direction every step of the way
  • Excellent communication (both written and spoken) and analytical skills.
  • Forward thinking and proactive, with an ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Interest in entrepreneurship, finance and technology is a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently, and use own initiative to follow through findings and remedial actions.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff: good written communication skills, fluent and confident in spoken and written communication.
  • Persuasive and convincing with arguments and able to ensure that key messages are understood and acted upon.
  • Able to create clear management information for board level on risk to enable good decision making.
  • Consultative, approachable, and persistent. Good at probing facts and challenging assumptions
  • Bachelor’s degree from a reputable university.
