Assistant Electrician Job in Kenya - Pwani University

The University invites applications from suitably, qualified and experienced candidates to fill the position of Electrician Grade II. REF: PU/ADV/35/5/2017

Qualifications

  • Applicants Must have minimum of KCSE mean Grade D+ (Plus) and a Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution with Government Trade Test I and II in electrical installation
  • At least two (2) years relevant work experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical systems with proven integrity, independence, innovativeness and compliance to deadlines.
  • Practical experience in Domestic electrical and three phase booster pump installation, repair and maintenance of 3 phase auto-start DC Generators and handling medium and high voltage power
  • Demonstrable experience and ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g. wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints.
  • Experience in various electrical installations
  • Experience in handling different kinds of electrical devices and systems.

In addition, applicants:
Should show Active involvement in International/Continental/Regional /National/ Local/Community activities.

Skills
Applicants should posses the following skills and abilities

  • Flexible to work long shifts and overnight knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines
  • Strong technical ability in the field
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Interpersonal skills and good communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Inspect backup generators and motherboard to ascertain whether they are in good condition.
  • Trouble shoots and repair faulty equipment after receiving error reports to return them to their previous state for effective service delivery.
  • Keep a record of materials used in the unit for accountability purposes.
  • Maintain a record of electric readings to facilitate proper payment of the bills for uninterrupted power supply.
  • Ensure electrical systems in the university are well fitted and maintained to avoid accidents and guarantee the security and safety of users.
  • Replace blown out and faulty bulbs and replace with new ones to continue providing proper lighting in the University for a Smooth running of all activities.
